href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/01\/01\/im-a-food-writer-best-things-ate-2024-22274869\/\"> new year<\/a>, so when you head to the<a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/supermarkets\/\"> supermarket <\/a>you know you\u2019ll be bombarded with promotions to help you eat better.<\/p>\n<p>But one place you might not expect to see this sort of messaging is in the <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/lifestyle\/food\/\">crisp <\/a>aisle, however you might notice a bizarre change being made to certain packets of your favourites over the next few weeks.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s because <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2024\/04\/04\/walkers-makes-major-change-popular-snack-20587227\/\">Walkers<\/a> has added a special claim to packs of its better-for-you crisps and snacks, which highlights that they contain 0.0% alcohol – just in case you weren\u2019t already aware they aren\u2019t made with any <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/alcohol\/\">booze.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This will feature on packets of Walkers Baked crisps, Walkers Less Salt, Snack a Jacks, Pop Works and SunBites.<\/p>\n<figure packets, there\u2019s also a brand new cheeky advert which sees <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/danny-dyer\/\">Danny Dyer<\/a> behind the bar in a pub, serving up crisps in a pint glass to customers who are \u2018going dry\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The new campaign, launched by Walkers parent company PepsiCo, is intended to be \u2018reminiscent of beer adverts\u2019 during <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/dry-january\/\">Dry January<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>\u2018Some people say January is the Monday of months, but maybe they don\u2019t know that you can go dry and still enjoy every moment with alcohol-free snacks – the perfect January choice ,\u2019 Danny tells viewers in the ad.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Wanna share a laugh with friends? Or tears? Or you don\u2019t have any friends\u2026 perfect. Tough day? Have a not necessarily cold one,\u2019 he continues as he plops a giant ice bucket full of crisps down in front of a group.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"363\" src=\"https:\/\/maranatha-academy.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/SEC_234851084-9af9.jpg\" class=\"article-image wp-image-22291781\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>\t<\/div><figcaption>Danny Dyer starts in the unique new advert (Picture: Walkers)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>At the end of the ad, a baffled woman says to him: \u2018Sorry, but snacks have never had any alcohol?\u2019 To which he replies: \u2018Neither have they ever been advertised like this in January.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>He then proceeds to \u2018drink\u2019 the crisps from the glass. <\/p>\n<p>Speaking about the change, said PepsiCo UK marketing director Cynthia Finke told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegrocer.co.uk\/news\/walkers-adds-00-alcohol-claim-to-crisp-packs-in-dry-january-push\/699355.article\">The Grocer<\/a>: ‘Many shoppers will start the new year off by cutting back on the things they enjoy, such as some of their favourite snacks.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Through this, we can remind consumers of our broad range of great-tasting non-HFSS snacks, making sticking to good intentions a little easier with brands they already know and love.\u2019<\/p>\n<section class=\"metro-comment-cta\">\n<div class=\"metro-comment-cta__inner\"><span class=\"metro-comment-cta__text-wrap\"><title>Comment now<\/title><span class=\"metro-comment-cta__text\">What do you think about Walkers adding 0.0% alcohol to their crisp packets?<\/span><\/span><a class=\"metro-comment-cta__button\" href=\"#metro-comments-container\">Comment Now<\/a><\/div>\n<\/section>\n<p>This comes after Walkers faced backlash at <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/christmas\/\">Christmas<\/a> from shoppers over their <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2024\/10\/30\/walkers-crisps-fans-cant-decide-latest-creation-stupid-a-dream-21895393\/\">advent calendar.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>People couldn\u2019t decide if they thought the product, which contained 24 packs of crisps, was \u2018stupid\u2019 or \u2018a dream\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>This was because of the \u00a310 price tag, which many people pointed out cost much more than it usually would to purchase 24 bags of crisps.<\/p>\n<p>On<a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/tiktok\/\"><strong> TikTok <\/strong><\/a>people were also taken aback by the price, with Katie Sherred saying: \u2018Cheaper to buy the 24 crisps in multipacks!
